Tomorrow is my birthday. Yeah, I’ve never been a big fan of birthdays. It’s not because I’m afraid of getting older or I’m hung up on my age at all. Mostly, I couldn’t care less about those things. For me, it comes down to the attention. I’m not one to be the center of attention most of the time. But on the same note, if no one would recognize my birthday, I think I’d be sad. Probably very sad. It is quite a conundrum.

This year I won’t need to worry about that because my birthday was not forgotten. In fact, it’s been quite lovely so far and it’s not even my birthday yet. My mom got me a new purse/bag, a very nice (vegan, recycled) canvas messenger bag from Paz. I found this bag online a long time ago and have been wanting it in the worst way, but I couldn’t justify the cost. But after several purses bit the dust (I’m not very gentle with my daily purse) and becoming increasingly frustrated with the lack of quality in the purses I seemed to like, I started to consider this bag more. After reading up on the site and being impressed with the overall message of the site, I decided I’d rather give my money to get a quality item than just as much (if not more) for several lesser-quality purses from various chain stores. I’ve had it a week and absolutely love it. Tons of space, comfortable, vegan, looks cool, easy access to my stuff and just really fits my life. Love it!

Now to the real surprise…

My lovely boss, her kids and my coworker (and her puppy) surprised me today with a birthday celebration where there were presents, singing and a marshmallow “cake” (not vegan, but very sweet!). I’ve been feeling kinda down, and this brought my spirits up to “bursting at the seams with happiness” level. Here’s a photo of the goods:

(this was taken with my phone, so please ignore the poo-ish photo quality…)

Beautiful flowering plant

Homemade string pompom shark

Cookbook (Vegan Yum Yum — YUM!)

Surfing penguin figurine

Swedish Fish

Starbucks coffee

Gift Cert to the movies

Earrings (beautiful!)

Marshmallow “cake”

I’ll be honest, I love presents as much as the next person, but when the gift (bought, homemade, whatever) is something given especially with me in mind, it doesn’t matter what it costs or if it costs nothing at all. It will always mean a thousand times more to me than any expensive gift given without thought. And every single one of these items was “me”. It was so perfect, I’m still smiling!

Since going to the 5-day work week, and Ash-pea switching her work week, I’m rarely in the office by myself. Don’t get me wrong, I love my 5-day work week, the days are shorter and I feel like I actually have a whole week, instead of a 3-day weekend and 4-day overloaded work week, nothing in between. So anyways, it’s a real treat to have the office to myself. I feel free to be creative without anyone looking over my shoulder or interrupting my flow. Yes, I know it’s an office and the phone rings and people talk and emails *ding* in, but it always feels more calm when I’m here by myself. I can listen to any music I want and sing if I feel inspired. Haha, that’s actually quite often.

Last night I FINALLY got around to blanching and freezing all those carrots and tomatoes, AND I had forgotten I didn’t have any lunches for today and tomorrow, so I decided to make tofu scramble (v.1.3) at 9pm last night. Oh, the house smelled amazing with fresh mushrooms and peppers. Yowza! Now I just need to upload those photos of the new scramble.

Lalala back to singing…
